Just to throw out some more ideas for Paper #2...

On the way back from 8am class, I thought: Why is it that when others yawn, I yawn too? Also, when I sat down to look at everyone's revised papers, my stomach growled. Why does it actually make a sound? And how is it that that sound is audible to me.. someone listening on the OUTSIDE of my skin? You could do a whole research paper on the odd things our bodies do.. like take for instance my double-jointedness in my elbows. How is that possible? Why do some people have longer second toes and others don't AND does that mean you are smarter? Does a large forehead mean you are intelligent? Does having a stubby nose mean you are stubborn? Do blondes have more fun?

Gee.. and I got all this from just thinking about my own weirdness.

Okay. LOTS of you have questions about WA#7... and while it's due tomorrow, I still have some input.. MAYBE someone will be on here and see it. Or I could send out an e-mail too.

WA#7 can be whatever you wish it to be. It doesn't have to be like mine, but it can. It basically needs to show what YOU KNOW (and don't have to do research on) and then show WHAT YOU'D like to know that connects to what you already know (things you'd have to research). EXAMPLE: I know a lot about the game of tennis. I don't have to research how to play or how it feels to play the game and win, etc. BUT if I wanted to learn about it's history or about how to string a broken racket, I would need to do research. SO connect what you KNOW and what you'd like to KNOW. It can be colorful or not.. with lots of images or lots of words..

Basically, brag about yourself, and then show what you'd like to research about the world and why you'd like to research that.

I hope I am making sense.

Here is a link to all the stretch projects (Paper #2) from last year.... check 'em out if you wish... get ideas... see what others did.

ALSO while you are on the internet, take this survey so that my professors and I can continue our research on weblogging.

I scored a 37.5% as far as how much my weblog owns me. That's a decent score I'd say! Thanks for finding the quiz, Ryan.

Did conferences help everyone with their papers? Should I do these grading conferences more? Next semester? The conferences I used to have were shorter, but I never got into the papers as much. I could only read so much and give a little bit of feedback. I like these, I think. But that's my perspective.

REMEMBER- Writing Assignment #7 is due next Tuesday in class... bring those Information Graphics so you can show them off!!

I missed that concert. Some of us have to work for a living. I could have seen half of the concert.... but $30 is too much for only part of a show. Are there any good concerts coming up soon?

well, just ran into Kyle (weblogger of sexualchickenmanifesto), and he told me I looked "tired" which he then told me was a nice way of saying I looked like crap. What a nice guy!

I'm not a big fan of Evanescence, but then again, I love techno/dance music.

I DO realize that not ALL of you are going to LIKE/LOVE weblogs. I do know this. Seriously. That is why we are doing it just a LITTLE BIT. I would ask for no more complaining in this area, but it is every college student's right to complain about whatever they want.

As for writing papers.. well, get use to it. AT LEAST, I give choices on paper topics!! Some teachers don't. Not that that's a bad thing.

Conferences next week, and there is a substitution for WA#7!! Be in class today to find out what it is!!! WA#7 is due Sept 30 in class.

DON'T FORGET TO BRING ROUGH DRAFTS TO CLASS ON THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 18!! Much of classtime will be spent doing peer review of those rough drafts.

Jenny, I, too, think that that is a great idea for a paper.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

god bless america :)

I thought that the article was kind of strange. It sounded like Meg thought of blogs as a sort of a social revolution. I wonder if some bloggers never actually see people's faces.
Thanks to ALL OF YOU for being so patient. Hopefully, you will see SOME of the benefits of using "these things" called weblogs. Even if you don't keep your personal ones past this semester, at least you will have tried something new, right?

Weblogs to remember:
Kyle's
my sister's

Well, I thought that Meg's article was alright. I use xanga quite often and I definitely agree that there is a way to make your weblog more readable and fun.

First of all, if you're going to write a weblog, especially a long one...don't write in a HUGE paragraph. In my opinion, when people are reading weblogs, they will tend to read the ones with a lot of sentences but spaces in between than the one with one huge paragraph. I dont know...it's hard to explain...maybe I'm retarded. :)

Also, maybe try to add a joke or something in there. Those are always fun.

But I guess if you don't want your weblog to be fun, then you wouldnt do that...

But, I think when I write weblogs, I try to be me. I try to sound how I would say it. Maybe not though. I dont know????!

well whatever....im out :)

Hey all!

More clarifications will be given about "this thing" called a weblog tomorrow in class.

A change in the syllabus.. sort of. Tomorrow I will assign WA#5... and on the 11th of September we will cover Articles instead of Weblogs (since I think we'll cover them pretty well on Tuesday the 9th in the lab: IACC 114). The TWIST is this: For Sept 11, 16, and 18, I will have YOU ALL bring in articles, memoirs, and profiles for us to read. You will get into groups (3 to be precise).. pick a day... find either an article, memoir, or profile (under 2 pages please)... print off enough for the whole class (23 copies: use that technology fee!!) and then present it to us on the correct day. This way, we'll read something a little more fun than The Call to Write, and you can meet people too through some group work. I will allow some time tomorrow for you to get into groups and figure out what to find and where to find it.

I plan on e-mailing everyone this as well. Please be in class tomorrow for further details and clarifications!

Later!
